Project Overview

Warm woods, precious artefacts, streamlined silhouettes

31C Carmichael Road was designed to house a carefully assembled collection of Asian artefacts without becoming a museum. The challenge was to create a home that could hold objects of significance — some antique, some contemporary — while still reading as a place of ease and warmth.

The palette draws on the natural tones of the collection itself: aged teak, bronze, terracotta, and soft white plaster. Joinery was designed to frame rather than compete with the pieces on display. Lighting was treated with the same care as in a gallery: controlled, directional, and never harsh.

The result is a house that rewards slow looking. Every corner has been considered and every shelf has a reason.
