Project Overview

A free-spirited villa where old meets new

Jayawardena Villa sits on a hillside in Sri Lanka. The brief was to bring together two inheritances — a colonial-era structure with deep verandas and high ceilings, and a family's desire for contemporary comfort — without forcing either to compromise.

L-Pine Design's consultancy role covered spatial planning, material specification, and the design of key custom furniture pieces. The approach was to honour the building's proportions: cornicing, archways, and timber louvres were retained and celebrated rather than concealed.

Contemporary pieces — clean-lined sofas, linen drapery, hand-thrown ceramics — were introduced in a tone that defers to the architecture rather than competing with it. The result is a house that feels both inherited and newly alive.
